SALMON RIVER FISHING GUIDE

Fishing on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and its tributaries is catch-and-release only, using only artificial flies and lures with a single barb-less hook. The use of bait is prohibited. A valid Idaho fishing license is required. Fishing hours are a half hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset, local time.

The Main Salmon River is open all year to trout fishing. Only adipose fin clipped rainbow trout may be harvested. Try fishing some of the deeper pools and pocket water along the river's edge for rainbow trout.

Idaho is the only inland western state with ocean-run (anadromous) salmon and steelhead Fish.  Steelhead Trout are Rainbow Trout that return after spending one to two years in the ocean, to the free flowing Salmon River to spawn each year in the spring.  These Steelhead migrate up from the ocean in the fall to spend the winter downstream from Stanley near the towns of Salmon and Riggins. Once the water in the higher country warms up, these fish begin to move on up to the waters they were born in to begin their spring spawning ritual.

When conditions are right, these runs provide an exciting fishing experience.

State records are 54 pounds for salmon and 30 pounds, 2 ounces for steelhead.

The fishery is one of the best catch-and-release fly fisheries in the nation. It is one of the last free-flowing tributaries of the Salmon River system

The limit is one fish daily, three in possession and 10 for the season.

Twin Peaks Ranch came about as sportsmen sought new unspoiled outdoor challenges in the early 1900’s. They scouted for properties in mountainous settings, looking for land suitable for a comfortable lodge and cabins, an existing open range, and pastures and facilities for horses and mules.

Our alpine lake fish camp at Williams Lake Lodge offers the avid angler numerous opportunities to hook the Rainbow of their dreams. The Rainbow Trout thrives on one of the highest levels of fresh water shrimp in the state here. Anglers gave the lake's inlet the name "fly fisherman's heaven", so your chances of hooking that fish you've always “talked” about are very good.
The outboards are tuned to troll deep for the big ones. Tack and bait are available at the boathouse and fly fishing instruction can usually be arranged for beginners. Twin Peaks Ranch | Salmon, Idaho
